West Texas Festivals

Plan a late winter camping trip to the great city of Abilene. It has interesting attractions such as Frontier Texas and Buffalo Gap Historic Village, along with the zoo and several museums. In addition, two major events are coming up – Outlaws and Legends and the Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup.

Outlaws and Legends

March 31 and April 1 are the dates of a music festival called Outlaws and Legends. Quite a big local gala, it has been featured in Texas Monthly, Texas Highways and other publications. Attending the concerts is a nice way to relax and celebrate Texas Independence Day. A few of the performing artists scheduled for this year’s event include Lee Ann Womack, Cody Johnson, Mark Chesnutt and Kevin Fowler.

Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup

Where else but in West Texas can you attend a rattlesnake parade and watch a snake-eating contest! On March 10 to 12, Sweetwater will host the World’s Largest Rattlesnake Roundup, an event that will also include a carnival, guided hunts, dance and cook-off. It will be held at the Nolan County Coliseum at 1699 Cypress in Sweetwater.
