If you love classic cars, make plans to attend the 34th Annual Cruise Night on October 1. This family-friendly event involves a cruise of vintage cars along with live entertainment and dancing. The cruise will take place on North 1st Street from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the dance will be held downtown from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free.

Trade Days of West Texas

On the second weekend of every month, Abilene residents and visitors can shop until they drop at Trade Days of West Texas. You can browse through antique, vintage and handmade merchandise as well as pick up snacks from food trucks. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Parking and admission is free. The next scheduled event is on October 7 to 9.

Art Walk

On the second Thursday of every month, the cultural district in downtown Abilene comes alive. People from neighboring areas of the state flock to the city to enjoy galleries, museums, shops and restaurants. The art walk is free, and hours are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. October 13 is the date of next month’s gala.

Head over to Schreiner University, Robbins-Lewis Pavilion in Kerrville on September 30 for Texas Heritage Music Day. This free family occasion will include chuck wagons, storytelling and cowboy poets along with teepees and singing. The performances will involve Gospel tunes in addition to tributes to Hispanic artists and Jimmy Rogers, the Father of Country Music. Festivities will start at 9 a.m. and conclude with a 7:30 p.m. concert.

Kerrville Traders Fest

You can browse through the merchandise of more than 150 vendors at the Kerrville Traders Fest, which is held every fourth weekend of the month. It is considered the premier shopping event of Texas Hill Country, as it offers Mexican imports, boutique clothing, jewelry, yard art and much more. The gala also includes food, live entertainment and children’s activities. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The next scheduled fest will be on September 24 and 25. Admission and parking are free.

Racing fans won’t want to miss the FORMULA 1 United States Grand Prix contest at Circuit of the Americas on October 21 to 23. The three-day racing event will have live music with a headlining performance by international superstar Taylor Swift. Grammy winner The Weekend will perform as well.

A three-day general admission ticket is $165. If you prefer a one-day ticket, the Friday 8:15 a.m. race is $75. The Saturday 8:15 a.m. race is $200, which includes admission to the Taylor Swift concert, while the Sunday 8:15 a.m. race general admission ticket starts at $99 and includes admission to The Weekend concert.

Dia de los Muertos Music Festival

Head over to Fiesta Gardens on October 15 for Dia de los Muertos Music Festival, an occasion involving Latin music and dance as well as art, food and children’s activities. Tickets are $30, and hours are from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.


On October 22, Austin Saengerrunde will host the 4th Annual AustOberfest to celebrate the German heritage of Central Texas. The gala will include sausage, live music, beer tastings and bowling. Join the locals as they celebrate this wonderful ethnicity at Family Day Fiesta, which will be held at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts on September 12. You’ll be able to listen to a mariachi band and watch a traditional ballet folklorica, as well as create art projects of piñatas and castanets.
