February 3 is the 58th anniversary of the plane crash that claimed the life of Buddy Holley, Lubbock’s favorite son. The Buddy Holly Center will commemorate the occasion with a special day of events.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a 90-minute documentary of the music legend will be shown in the Fine Arts Gallery. It tells the story of the man whose songwriting and singing style impacted rock-and-roll and country music. Admission is free.
If weather permits, a museum curator will conduct guided trolley tours of local landmarks that played a role in Holly’s career. Tour times are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and admission is $5.
The day also includes hands-on activities for all ages, including the opportunity for kids to touch musical instruments. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
