Norman and Virginia Otis are the new owners of the Rusk KOA and are bringing some new ideas to their venture.
For starters, they’re introducing “seasonal camping” starting April 1. This arrangement, which is popular elsewhere in the U.S. but uncommon in their region, provides one rate that covers a site from April 1 to Oct. 31. The full-season rate is $1,900 but will be pro-rated for a shorter time period. Campers will be able to take advantage of the long list of planned events and activities, which are all part of the camping package.
Another new idea at the campground will be murder mystery dinners. The first one will be modeled after a 1920s gangster theme and titled “Crime and Punishment.” Mobsters, murder, and comic mayhem ensue after the mysterious death of one of the “family.” It will be staged on April 26 in the campground’s Club Room. The cost is $50, which includes the meal and mystery. The event is open to non-campers too.
“Guests don’t need costumes but would be cool if they want to dress in 1920s attire,” says Virginia. The acting cast will be dressed in period attire and pull some guests out of the audience during the presentation. Virginia notes that the fun event will give guests a chance to “channel their inner thug…”
The Otises hold special events in conjunction with all holidays. They just concluded a very successful St. Patrick’s Day dinner and will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on April 19.
