Weatherford KOA, a Texas Gem

A waterfall i Chandor Gardens

A stunning waterfall in Weatherford’s Chandor Gardens.

Whether you stay one night, several nights, a week, a month or several months at Weatherford KOA, you will be happy you did.

Our 58-site campground is open year-round and is located just west of Fort Worth off I-20. Weatherford is the cutting Horse Capital of the World so it is common to see real cowboys and cowgirls wearing their western hats, boots and spurs as they shop in our local stores.

Our Historic Shopping District is full of antique, boutique and specialty stores. Many specialize in western memorabilia and rustic, ranch-style furniture. There’s also an old-time Farmer’s Market, where you can buy fresh Parker County produce, including watermelon, pecans and of course our famous peaches.

The crown jewel of the downtown is the Parker County Courthouse, recently restored to its original splendor.

Chandor Gardens is Weatherford’s pride and joy. Built by famed English portrait artist Douglas Chandor for his Weatherford bride, the Gardens capture both the elegance of a formal English garden and the ornate design of Chinese architecture. From the 30-foot waterfall to soothing fountains, from a bowling green to secret hideaways, Chandor Gardens will capture your awe and wonder at every turn.Chandor Gardens

We have over 30 places to eat and more than 30 places to shop within one mile of the park.

Area attractions include the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Bass Performance Hall, the Fort Worth Zoo, Texas Motor Speedway, Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas Rangers baseball, Dallas Cowboys football and Fort Richardson in Jacksboro.

First Monday Trade Days will be Jan. 3-5 at the corner of Santa Fe and Highway 180 in Weatherford.

The Weatherford KOA will host the KOA booth at the Tarrant County RV Show Jan. 9-12 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Van Horn KOA is ‘Horse Friendly’

The weather sign at the entrance to the Van Horn KOA is a popular photo subject for visitors to this West Texas park.

The “weather station” at the entrance to the Van Horn KOA is a popular photo subject for visitors to this West Texas park.

Tucked away in West Texas is the Van Horn KOA, where you’ll wake up to a breathtaking sunrise and wind up the day with a spectacular sunset. In between you’ve got a world of fun at the Van Horn KOA, set in a beautiful desert valley surrounded by mountains located just off I-10, about 120 miles east of El Paso.

This country setting, landscaped with native plants that attract wildlife, is filled with the sounds of birds (rather than highway or railroad noise!). At this KOA open year-round, there’s free popcorn, plus cable TV with 42 channels, free Wi-Fi at your campsite and even free greens fees at the local golf course. The full-service KOA Cafe (open September thru June) can deliver a Texas dinner to your campsite or cater your group event. We are pet and big rig friendly with 70 large 40-foot by 100-foot pull through sites.

We’re also “horse friendly,” as we offer a pen and stable for our guests who travel with horses.

We are the gateway to many West Texas attractions. They include Big Bend National Park on the Mexican border; Guadalupe Mountains National Park, site of the world’s finest example of a fossilized reef and West Texas’ only legally designated wilderness; Carlsbad Caverns National Park; Fort Davis and Museum; the McDonald Observatory; the town of Marfa, whose “Ghost Lights” have defied explanation since 1883; and The Castle, a 1910 home remodeled by the Duke D’Autri to resemble his European family home.

Your KOA hosts, Dennis and Gisela McBride, can arrange a tour of Red Rock Ranch, including a visit to the “Dead Man’s Walk” movie set.
