New addition to the Fort Worth Zoo

Stay at the Weatherford KOA and come see the biggest baby in town. Baby elephant “Belle” is the Fort Worth Zoo’s latest addition, born on July 7, 2013. Even more special, she’s only the second baby elephant born in the zoo in its 104 year history.

The Asian elephant was named in a contest, including finalist choices Maggie and Rube, but Belle was chosen (short for Bluebell, the flower found in abundance in Texas). The first Asian elephant born in the zoo in 1998 was named Bluebonnet or Bonnie for short. These births have been celebrated even more than usual since the Asian elephant is an endangered species.

When you’re not watching Belle splash in her tiny swimming pool, check out new baby rhino Asha or one of the many other exhibits and attractions. Learn about native animals in the large Texas Wild! addition or watch apes and chimpanzees play in the World of Primates.

The Fort Worth Zoo is one of the top rated zoos in the world, and one of the best attractions in the DFW area. You’ll be only a short drive from other attractions including the Texas Stockyards, Texas Motor Speedway and much more when you stay at the Weatherford KOA.
