While our town may be small, it has the equivalent of a 5-star restaurant in the historic Hotel El Capitan. Campers at Van Horn KOA can dine at tables covered with white linen and adorned with fresh flowers, feasting on delicacies like pistachio encrusted steak and homemade blackberry cobbler.
One of the oldest buildings in the area is one that currently houses the Culberson County Historical Museum. The attraction will make an interesting place to visit, as it has many artifacts relating to the town’s history, including items belonging to its early pioneer families. The museum also features exhibits on early ranching and mining along with the railroad. A special highlight is an old western-style saloon with mirrored-back bar, ornate hardwood and brass rail.
Another attraction in the city is the remains of a private residence built in 1910. Referred to as Duke’s Castle, the home was designed to model the family’s home in Europe. Unfortunately, the residence burned and has never been repaired.
