Cirque du Soleil: Quidam

quidhamA world-class entertainment is coming up on February 2 at the American Bank Center — Cirque du Soleil: Quidam. Campers from Lake Corpus Christi / Mathis KOA will have the opportunity to attend this critically acclaimed production that has toured in five continents. The extraordinarily talented cast includes acrobats and singers, as well as musicians and characters who act out a captivating story. Showtimes are at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the cost of tickets ranges from $100 to $150.

On the first Saturday of every month the marina on the Lawrence Street T Head is the scene of Marina Market Days, a festivity that involves food and live music, along with arts and crafts. A farmer’s market is available as well. The next one will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on February 2.

Coming up on February 1 is the First Friday Art Walk, a free event held downtown where shops, museums and galleries stay open late. The next one will be held on February 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Kerrville Winter Events

russian folk festivalSeveral nice events are coming up during January and February that residents of Kerrville KOA will enjoy. Something special on the agenda for February 3 is Nikolai Massenkoff and the Russian Folk Festival, a high-spirited celebration of Russian heritage. Head over to the Cailloux Theater, where between 3 and 5 p.m. your senses will be dazzled by Russian musicians and folk dancers in traditional dress.

Between now and the end of January 30, those who like to go antiquing may attend the KACC Antiques and Collectibles Show, a market that has high quality pieces from every period. The show is held at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center.

Those who love the theater will delight in the local production of the Girl of the Freudian Slip. The play will be presented at the VK Garage Theater at 7:30 p.m. on February 2 and on February 15 through 17.

On February 14, a naturalist will conduct a Valentine Trail Walk beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Town Creek overlook. Immerse yourself in the lovely view as you stroll along the Kerrville River Trail. The cost is $3 per person.

exerciseBaby its cold outside in a lot of the country, but here at Leander/ NW Austin KOA we are lucky to see more of a moderate climate.  However, there is nothing like a little cool weather to get everyone in the mood for some of our good times.  We offer lots of weekly activities, such as low impact exercises, movie and popcorn nights and rip-roaring good games of cards. Our monthly potluck dinners are always a hit, and the February dinner will have a Mardi Gras theme. In addition, join us as we celebrate the Super Bowl game with our version of the Superbowl Chili Dump!

Upcoming events in the community include the Grand AM at COTA, South by Southwest and the Rodeo.  Once again the Circuits of the Americas will offer entertainment with the MotorGP in April.

West Side Story

west side storyEveryone loves a play based on an award-winning Broadway show with a captivating story line. On January 26 residents of Lubbock KOA can have the pleasure of attending the theatrical production of West Side Story, undoubtedly one of the finest Broadway musicals of all time.

A poignant love story, the plot is set against an unlikely background of rival gangs in New York City in the 1950s. The thing that makes the play so memorable is the musical score by Leonard Bernstein that produced some of the most exquisitely beautiful songs ever heard on a Broadway stage. These include “Somewhere,” “Tonight” and “I Feel Pretty.”

Another event on the horizon is the Arts and Crafts Fair on January 19 at Science Spectrum. Visitors can see an array of handiwork, such as handmade jewelry, rock carving and much more.
